I'm setting up a brand new network at the moment. HQ recommended a Cisco PIX 501, or any current Linksys model.

It's been 5 or 6 years since I've touched any Cisco product. But most everyone recommend Cisco since they think it's the only thing that really works.

since Linksys is part of Cisco now I would assume that linksys acquired some of cisco technology by now in their products right?

Should I save the headache and just get a RV016 or something like that?

The RV016 is a great router, what are your plans for the network??

    I really like the 082 and 016 models...I've upgraded a few clients older pix501's with rv016 units.

    Go With The PIX!!

I know Linksys is part of Cisco now, but trust me, for all around security there is no better firwall than a PIX. Not taking anything away from the Linksys products, they are great, but again, for absolute security, go with the PIX.

The 501 or 506 are simple the configure and once they are up and running, you don't have to mess with them anymore.

If you need any assistance at all with setting it up (If that's what you decide to do), please feel free to email me at and I will help you with anything you need.
