I have been upgrading straight to Tomato from the start w/o clearing nvram and now I want to start fresh in case it has any issues w/my recent inconsistent download speeds. Its been awhile since I cleared nvram or upgraded a firmware from scratch so I kinda forgotten what steps I need to do. Are these steps correct:

    1. clear nvram
    2. restore default settings
    3. Manually enter my settings

Or do I need to reload the firmware before these steps??
I have a WRT54G v4 that is running the latest firmware which now shows it as a WRT54GS.

Clearing the nvram also restores default settings. Then re-enter your settings. It is a very good idea to do this from what you have described.
