Hello, sorry if this has been posted before! I tried searching (and a Google session to) but I’m all confused. I understand that I can’t just go and flash a WAP54G hacked firmware like MustDie or the sveasoft WAP54G firmware "Freyaâ€. I think I want Freya because I understand it has telnet, and the power boost features looks good to.

Though I think I have to know what version my LinkSyS Access Point version is? I tried looking at the pinned topics but there is a wealth of information and it’s confusing me, if you know just link me to a guide, I’m sure it’s something simple standing right out in front of me.

I also understand that having a hacked firmware and increasing the power of the antenna’s can be against the law. It says on the back of my WAP54G AP that the EU countries (I’m in UK) are of frequencies is 2454Mhz to 2483,5Mhz. I assume the firmware goes from 1-10 on the power output or something. How would I know I’m not breaking the law?

Thanks, by the way I’m running the latest official firmware 2.0.8 and is WEP best used over WPA? Cause I’m using WEP encryption at 128Bit 26Hex digits. On the back of my box the model just says WAP54G, I assume that’s V1.0?

Look att the FCC ID number on the label, if the is nothing after the WAP%$G then it is a version 1.0. If there is is a V2, it is a version 2.0. WPA- PSK is more secure than WEP 128bit. WEP iencription is broken and does not use the full key and can be cracked in as little as three minutes.

U will get an official copy of the firmware on www.linksys.com/download
All u need here is select the correct version number and operating system and u got it.

It just says WAP54G on the FCC ID number. Is the V1.0 most hackable? Will the sveasoft WAP54G firmware "Freya†work ok? I assume it will. Is there a guide on this site to safely upgrading to the hacked firmware? I don't want to f*ck it up.

Does anyone know if it's possible to increase the power transmit outside UK operating law's? The device will stay in my bedroom, will it be a health hazord increasing the transmit power?

    Thanks for the encription info!

There is hacked firmware for both version 1.0 and 2.0. You should always do a firmware update from a wired connection. You can try HyperWAP also, if you want to increase the power output of your WAP54G. I would only increase the power to a point that the connection is reliable. When you increase the power, you are also increasong the noise levels and increasing interference to nearby wireless networks. Some people just upgrade the antennas or get directional antennas There should not be a health hazard to increasing the power. I do not know the legality of increasing the power in the UK, but most consy=umer Access Point are capaable of transmitting less power than some commercial Access Points.

Some good points there, I will look into HyperWAP. Well my laptop is in for repairs atm broken DVD Drive.

Though wen I get it back I will try that. I was just asking about the health hazord, since wen I play games my laptop sits right next to the ap.

If anyone can confirm (via offcial web site?) that it's not against the law in UK to go over a certain point then I would be happy. Thanks.
