Confused over 3rd party firmware

Sorry for the WiFi newbie question. I bought the Linksys 54GS router/PCMCIA card set for the "boosted" throughput speeds and have since discovered the 3rd party firmware updates here that allow further tweaking. Like many here, I'm most interested in RF range increases and for my purposes, adding the missing port-triggering options.

I'm not new to computers etc. by any means, just WiFi. Can someone tell me which package if any will work with the 54GS router and NOT lose the "Speedboost" feature. I update to Linksys 2.07.1 firmware when I bought the router about 3 weeks ago and I see no mention here of whether they have increased RF output beyond 22 mW or whether I definitely need to go back to 2.04 or older to use the aftermarket firmware.

Any and all feedback is most appreciated!

You should note that firmware for WRT54G and WRT54GS are different and are not interchangeable.

There are more versions of custom firmware availabe for WRT54G than WRT54GS, so make sure you are reading information and downloading firmware specifically for your router.

Thanks, that's why I asked before trying anything....
