Connecting Tomato to existing modem/router?

I am experimenting with Tomato / WRT54GL and have a query.

I want to use Tomato for QoS, but as I understand it, it will only work with traffic that passes through the physical wan port. The problem is that as I am currently connecting to a Netgear modem/router, the only way I can get a connection is by using the lan ports, I can't connect through the wan port.

I know I can set the modem to bridge mode, but the problem is that I have lots and lots of rules setup and also this is only a temporary experiment, the router will ultimately be moved to a different site in a short while.

    So I'm wondering if
    a) It's possible to get tomato to apply QoS/reporting on a lan port?
    b) It's possible to get tomato to connect to an existing NAT/DHCP setup via the wan port?

Many thanks to anyone who can offer some suggestions.
