i postet some weeks ago a document about translation of DD-WRT in other languages. now i implemented the background so far and my internal version does support spanish, french, english and german so far.

but thats not all. the current translations are surelly still not complete, so here is the point where everyone from the strong dd-wrt comunity can help.

    download current language packs: http://brainslayer.braincontrol.org/langs.zip

these files are the current internal language files. if someone want to help to bring in a new translation, just create it out from the current translation files. (they are just a example, so that everyone knows how it works)

after finishing send, this file to me or post it here as download link.

the translation system is a simple pattern matching system which translates all web pages internally in realtime. so it saves a lot of space and no web layout must be modified. but sometimes this is needed, cause of text alignment problems. but with this language description its also possible to replace html parts from the webpages.

i did the german translation in 40 minutes, so it shouldnt be a big problem to bring in a new language up to tomorrow?

    have fun

I'm currently halfway through translating it to Dutch (Netherlands).
It'll take me more than 40 minutes though.

I'll post the Dutch translation here on tuesday or thursday.

Just wondering, should I leave tags like "" and
in the translation or can I delete them?

edit: is there a way for me to test/preview my translation by copying it into the router or putting it in a share, or does it need to be compiled into the firmware?

you can delete them, but you have to ensure that every pattern is unique, so sometimes those taggs are needed to identify the right one on the page.

currently is no real way to preview it, but it can send you a compiled preview version so far i get your .lang file

w00t, it took me a little more than 4 hours and some searching on Google and an online dictionary, but i think im about done.

It surprised me that its a lot harder than it seems at first because some words just cannot be translated or can only be translated using more than one word, sometimes even a small sentence...

Anyways, the dutch.lang file can be found here:

could you build me a test firmware to see if my translation works out ok?
im hoping it doenst need a lot of editting to make the dutch text fit correctly on the web pages...

please pm me with a download link or post a reply with a link so more of us can test it.

ooh yeah, b4 i forget, i noticed a couple of things while translating.
    1) some of the items in the .lang file seem to be double like:
    "Show Routing Table" = " & "Show Routing Table" = "
    "Internet Connection Type" = " & ">Internet Connection Type<" = ">

In the second case: doenst ICT without >< translate >ICT< too?

    2) just an example: the Administration > Backup page contains the following code:
    <font face="Arial" size="2" color="#FF0000">D</font><FONT face=Arial color=#ff0000 size=2>o not upload any file that wasn't created by this interface!</FONT></TD>
Here the page declares the same font, size and color for "D" and "o not upload any file that wasn't created by this interface!" thus creating the line "Do not upload any file that wasn't created by this interface!".

Optimizing this line alone would save 51 characters, 51 whole bytes ;)
This might save a couple of extra KB's on the total firmware size and might make the pages a little faster too.

I realize it would be a lot of work to delete these double definitions, but some extra KB might be worth it.
/me is willing to give it a try :)

I also wish to give it a try...It's great to have the ability to translate the DD-WRT firmware.

I used the spanish.lang and translated to Traditional Chinese, which is available at http://starkwong.ivehost.net/temp/tradchinese.lang.

And I have one suggestion, is it possible to add the Content-Type meta so the exact charset can be specified? (The default "charset=iso-8859-1" will cause rendering of Chinese characters incorrectly. Instead "charset=big5" must be used)

yes. just add this replacing pattern to your language description

ah, and your downloadlink wont work

The file has been updated with the charset, and sorry, the link to filename should not include the last fullstop.

How this internalization goes? I just need to translate a lang file to my language and then post it for revision? If it's needed I will make the hungarian version for the latest prefinal5.

you can get the current translation files out of time firmware. look into /etc/langpack

    there are many examples inside

@BrainSlayer: I have been playing around with the Slovenian translation of the firmware and so I have added the Slovenian characters into it and I was wondering if i put in this line
    "charset=iso-8859-1" = "charset=iso-8859-2"
will everything be alright? Basically it just adds the central european characters so that the translation is more accurate.

I will send it to you after I check everything is alright and you give me green light with the charset line.

correct. but please do this on base of v23.

    Hi BrainSlayer!
I am trying to translate DDWRT to greek language and I think it is finished..
But I want to try it first. Please send me the required files to test it and some instructions how to do it too.
    Thanks for your great work!
