DDNS - Error Obtaining IP Address

    I have had this happen to me a couple times now, and can't quite figure out how Tomato determines this, so ...

    I have DDNS enabled, and it works fine with my DNS provider - if I force an update (I have External IP address checker enabled). However, if my IP address changes, the updates do not happen correctly, and rather I see the error message that there is an Error Obtaining (or determining I assume) the external IP address. If I force an update manually then it works, but I shouldn't have to do this.

    What mechanism is used to check the external IP address? It's not the WAN address, and seems to work manually, but not automatically. I'm wondering if my ISP is blocking some of the check mechanisms.

    Is there anything useful in the logs?

    Why do you not want to use the WAN address? Are you double-NATted or something?

    And who is the DDNS provider?

    Yes, double NAT'd, because I have to use the cable modem router in front of this. And the issue isn't the DDNS provider, rather Tomato is not determining the IP address correctly.
