Debricking WRT54G v5 w/JTAG

I successfully installed DD-WRT micro onto my WRT54G v5, and then made the unfortunate mistake of misreading the trick to enable 16MB of RAM that you can only do on the WRT54GS v5. Anyway, now my router seems completely bricked, it powers on and then has a blinking power LED and solid 1-4 port LED's.

I'm interested in seeing if I can get it back, so I read about about JTAG and took a look at my board, it looks like I need a 10-pin JTAG cable. I've got one on order, but most of the information I've found applied to v4 routers and below. Has anyone tried this? Any advice?

If you want more memory why don't you just spend your money on a WRT54GL rather than trying to revive that crippled box?

Well, I may end up doing that, but I'd still like to revive this guy as a learning experience, and so I can use it in client mode. Nothing to lose, you know?

Yep... I understand. I have no experience in debricking with a JTAG. When my GL died I just tossed it and drove to Best Buy to get the WHR-HP-G54. The time I would have spent working on the GL would be time my network would have been down. Can't have that.

    Good Luck :)

Are you sure it's not a 12-pin JTAG?

If you see a 10-pin block that is likely to be serial. The 12-pin is usual for JTAG. Not sure about v5 units though.

You could also try repeatedly doing TFTP, at least with old units there is a brief window during which you can TFTP a new firmware. Without boot_wait being on it always took me a dozen tries to get the timing right because it was like 1 second window.

Hey orion287, I also have a WRT54G v5 which I successfully had dd-wrt micro installed and carelessly did the 16mb ram upgrade for the WRT54GS v5.

Now my router is bricked like yours so you aren't alone. I'm interested to see if you can bring her back. Unfortunately, I don't have a PC with a parallel port so can't use a jtag cable.
