Deleting legitimate discussion topics?

Today I posed a poll question in the General Discussion forum, asking about the recent re-distribution of the Alchemy codebase someone, who maintains that his actions are entirely legal and proper under the GPL. I asked whether the reader feels that the GPL in fact allows this, or whether the guy redistributing the code is in the wrong.

I posed the question on what I feel were ambivilent terms, laying out a few supporting arguments for either side.

This post was summarily deleted without comment a few minutes later.

Now, I feel that this is a legitimate question both for Linksys WRT54G users and the GPL community at large. I also feel that this site was perhaps a little hasty in removing the question without comment.

May I have a definitive answer on why this post/poll was removed, and if so, whether the mods feel that the debate/discussion has or doesnt have merit?

    Thanks in advance

if you have a problem with anything in life confront you problems head on. ie go talk to sveasoft if you have a problem with him.

the aim of the forums is to generate help not unwanted hate, as this is what your topic brings. i have seen it too many times and i dont want it here.

    end of story.....

sorry if this annoys you but i want a simple life without flame wars.

Well, the forum description did say ANYTHING GOES!

Forgive me for not thinking that there was a contradiction to that in the FAQ.

I'll go away now, but thanks for clearing it up.

go away if you like and discuss the problem with sveasoft or on another forums, however no point in talking behind his back really,is there. the problem some people seem to have wont just go away.

Linksys themselves release EU (ETSI) firmware yet no source code has ever made its way onto the linksys gpl site. this is in breach of GPL though i see no one complaing do you?

No, I'm not complaining about linksys, but then again linksys isn't shutting down the websites of people who redistribute their code.

Dont get me wrong here, I didnt come here to start a flamewar. I was hoping for a calm, reasoned discussion of the facts of this particular case, and thought that this would be a suitable place to do so.

Additionally, I was under the impression that the sveasoft forums were still closed to non-paying users, but apparently thats' no longer the case. I'll try to take this up over there on the official forums, if I can.

Honestly, I meant no harm here. I'm not trying to start a flame war, and I dont mean to be bitchy in my posts. I was merely trying to get all the facts of the matter out in the open, because it seems like everyone is shouting too hard to listen to each other.

Thanks for keeping this site open, BTW, it's a good resource.

    Very respectfully

yeah i understand your intensions. many have tried a rational discussion but it never does that, it starts off nice and then gets nasty. so i ban it from being discuscussed here since i want this site to thrive on its friendliness
