I have a wrt54g router and underneath the router it says v8.2

that means it is version 8.2 right? if so i want to know how i can downgrade it to v2.0
    is that possible?

The same I was also trying to say: those are hardware revisions, not software. So, it's nothing that you can do other than buying a real v.2.0 or a GL (that has 200 MHz, 16 MB RAM, 4 MB flash).

Exactly . Hardware revisions are very different to firmware revisions.
You would have to buy the V2 of that router for the extra memory, flash and flexibility.

Let's say a user upgrade a GL to Linux base firmware and want's to revert his firmware upgrade to say a stock set... can this be done easy as 1 2 3?

You mean from Tomato to the original firmware? You have an ''upgrade'' page, you can use it.
