    Hi all,

I have got a problem with my WRT54G, Hardware version 2.2. Whenever I am downloading files my download speed (eg. Usenetjunkie or Newsleecher) will at random drop to 0.0 kb/s and will stop downloading. However if I close the application and start it up again, the download speed is fine again (until it drops to 0 again). These spikes happen completely at random.
I have tried the following things:
    - Checkes all my cables and there is no packet loss whatsoever.
    - I have switched NIC and have turned the software firewall off, no effect.
    - I have updated the firmware (was using the official Linksys firmware 3.03.1, and am now using: v3.03.6 - HyperWRT 2.1b1, Feb. 18, 2005), no effect

The cable modem is a Motorola Surfboard 5100e and is then connected to the WRT54g, it is setup as a gateway (should this be router?). The PC is connected via a wire to the WRT54G. I have furthermore have times in which the modem crashes alltoghether, implying a loss of IP address and I consequently have to reset (power-down) the modem!

What other things can I do, or is it broken and should I return it? Any advice is welcome and if you need more information, please ask! I have checked other threads on this forum already, but did not find an answer...

if you've had to reset your surfboard after that i'd look there, try the PC direct to the surfboard see if the issue re-occurs if it does it might be your cable modem...

I have never had to reset the surfboard, somehow my original text is misleading on that, so it's definately a Linksys issue (according to me at least!)

I have WRT54G Firmware Version: v3.03.6, Dec. 29, 2004 from the time i installed it i m having problems. I have 2 wired computers and 2 wireless, wireless disconnects just like that for no apparent reason. I think its the firmware problem.

i lowered Beacon Interval from 100 to 50 and it seems to be working.

I've got the same problem, i'm wired connected to the WRT54G v 2.2 and the latest beta firmware.

After a couple of files downloading in newsleecher the connection drops. I tried de 2.3. Beta 2 and the 2.1 Final.

I've to disable/enable the ethernetcard to get it working again cause if the connection drops to newsleecher i can't do anything...

    Did you solve it already?

I connected directly to the modem and had the same problem.... Or it's newsleecher or its a hard ware problem in the pc.

I've got Casema Mega (10 mbit) and a Moterola SURFBoard Model SB5100E

I've got exactly the same problem with my WRT54GV22 :(
I've connected my laptop to the 2nd ethernetport, and that works great!!! No problem at al ... It seems to be just the first ethernet port.

I've got a Proxim Orinoco Wireless goldcard, and with or without encryption that works great!!!

"Normal" downloading seems to be no problem at the 1st ethernetport. But when i start accelerated downloading with for example DAP, the whole internet connection freezes. Only disable/enable the ethernet works, just like m00n told earlier post.

I've just tried out the 3rd and 4th ethernet port with my laptop, both working fine! No problem at all. It really seems to be just the 1st ethernet port.

I've just hooked up my computer on the 3rd ethernet port. But still the same problem. :( My laptop doesn't have any problem at al on each of the 4 ports, but the connection on my computer freezes on every ethernet port, when running an accelerator :(

My laptop has got an 10/100mbit ethernet controller, and my computer an 10/100/1000mbit controler. Perhaps that's the isue???

I am having the same exact problems. When my connection is lost, I need to do a release and renew to get back on again. This is very annoying. I have called Linksys tech support, they are hard to understand because they are in some middle eastern country somewhere and they don't have any answers any way. The best answer I got from Linksys tech support was to return the router to the store where I purchased it. I did that and got another version 2.2 router that does the same thing. Using a wireless adapter works much better than directly connecting with cat5 cable to the switch. Also, the problem happens less frequently with Savesoft alchemy v1.0.

heh i have the same problem (or similar) using sb5100 with 10Mbit cable (effectively 5mbit...) and when i try to download at full speed - 5mbit the download will just stop. Sometimes the router crashes, other times it just continues as normal but the download stopped.

I've tried standard firmware 3.0.36, hyper wrt, dd-wrt, alchemy, 4.0.0x beta. none work 100% right. And i have NO wireless compononts in my setup, the problem here is with wired LAN.

Dupe of another thread IMO -- take a look at High Throughput Causes Disconnect, this is the same issue. Can be fixed either by beta FW or by overclocking your AP.

If I read everything correctly the other thread is reffering to disconnects when working "in wireless mode", whereas we are experiencing problems in wired mode! Please correct me if I am seeing this wrong!
