Extending my wireless network

    I have a BEFS11W4 and a WRT54GS.

My old router (befs11w4) is connected to my cable modem and cannot be changed. I'm trying to use my wrt54gs as a repeater.

I'm brand new to this so I'm very noobish. I can't setup wds between the two routers - right? I tried to setup my wrt in client and in client bridged mode, but it didn't help in boosting my wireless signal further.

Is it possible for me to extend my wireless network?

I am not sure that this can be done but i believe you can turn your WRT into a wireless repeater using the HyperWRT firmware. WDS certainly wont work since BEFW does not support it. Client mode is not what you want since it will not let wireless client associate( the wireless is used only for the bridge). I would have thought that repeater is WDS. If it so then i guess you are out of luck.

I don't know if this matters, but I've been able to "wds" other wrt's before even though they weren't enabled
