Please could someone just check that I'm going about flashing my Linksys WRT54G (v2.0) with DD-WRT v23 (25-12-05) in the correct way. My router currently has the latest Linksys firmware 4.20.7 installed.

From the DD-WRT WWW site, I navigated to downloads, then clicked on the 'dd-wrt.v23' link. The hwsupport.txt link says: "...for upgrading from original linksys firmware, please use the generic mini version
and flash it from web interface."

Entering the 'mini' directory, I downloaded the dd-wrt.v23_mini_generic.bin file - is this the one I need first of all? To be flashed afterwards with the dd-wrt.v23_generic.bin file in the 'standard' directory?

Many thanks for any help - I'm a little paranoid about bricking my unit...

Hey, lets just everybody open a new thread for the same questions...

Or check the Wiki. Or just don't do it...

Nowhere did I find the information that the mini is only necessary for V4. I since found this on another forum.

Thanks for your kind welcome, BTW.

Pointing out that someone is an idiot when clearly they are (and others can see this) just makes you the bigger idiot for not being able to keep your mouth shut and not state the obvious. I'm hoping that this behaviour can be explained away by you being 13 years of age (or under).

Also, you could have bothered to anwser the post and be helpful to me and to other (new) foum users, but it says a lot about you that you chose not to.

Thanks to all other forum users for *not* flaming my newbie question.

Thanks:from here I found: "NOTE: Additionally the stock firmware from Linksys on the WRT54G v4 and WRT54GL won't accept a firmware image over 3MB in size (you will get the error: "Upgrade are failed!"(sic) if you try) so you will need to flash the mini version of DD-WRT onto the router BEFORE flashing the std or voip versions. (Remember to hold reset button for 30 sec after flashing mini version.) "

Yeah, right... Installing DD-WRT on version 4 or GL

    You are welcome...

Who said you are an idiot? I just pointed out the very helpful use of the search function.

I actually tried to help other people. We don't need 200 threads on the same topic.

I didn't flame the question. It is just answered already - more than once!

For anyone interested, my v2 WRT54G and my WRT54G-UK (a v1 WRT54G) both flashed nicely from the routers' web GUI with dd-wrt.v23_generic.bin, located at:
