Hello. I am looking to modify the default settings on a linksys router. It doesnt matter the model, I guess if there is one easier or more reliable that would be best.
What I am trying to do is when the reset button gets pressed that it automatically has open ports for pcanywhere, vnc, remote administration along with several others and changing the username and password.

The problem is that I put in many small networks and end users often reset it and then we have a helpdesk walk potentially technically incompetent people how to do this and it wastes too much time.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

You can get some WRT54GL routers, load Tomato or other 3rd party firmware on it, and then you can program to your desire using scripts.

If you do, and you want to tie the "port opening" to pressing a button, rather use the SES button, and leave the reset button to be a reset button. Tomato firmware already has support built-in for button pressing to fire off scripts. You can also program the buttons for different "press times"; i.e. if pressed for 0-2 seconds do this, if pressed for 4-6 seconds do that, etc. You can even program the LED to white, amber, or off depending on the state of the router at any particular time.
