Going to be my first but...

    First Post! :D Im glad to be part of this community! I am about to do some mods on my wrt54gs v2.1 and I was wondering, what firmware should I be running to use most or all of these possible mods. Ive seen openwrt and I am getting into linux but only know basic shell opperations. Is this the best? Are there easier ones? Thankyou!

    P.S. What is a good first mod and what would I need? (not counting a fan...) also, is a USB port or lcd screen possible on my router?

    Go halfway down the page to the OpenWRT Customization section and you'll see links to info. on how to add both USB and LCD. Also, I don't think that you need to use OpenWRT for all of the mods, but some of them may require it. HyperWRT is a great firmware, I highly recommend it. The idea of HyperWRT is to make a custom firmware that stays close to the original Linksys version, but adds a few extras and remains fast. Here is their official site:

    Thank-you! Ill try out hyperWRT for just testing it out but I think ill try out openwrt. Also, do all the mods for wrt54g work for the gs. The intructions are for the G but can I follow it exacly on my GS? Thanks
