Good fimware choice for use with torrents?

I am running a WRT54GS V4 and have tried both HyperWRT 15c and the latest Linksys firmware with no resolution to my issues. I tried upgrading to HyperWRT 16b but kept getting timeout errors trying to load the file...

After I re-boot the router performs flawlessly - web browsing is fast, torrent DL/UL speed is high, and browsing the administration pages of the router is lightning quick. Slowly but surely that performance degrades to the point that I have to wait minutes between administration page changes, torrents all but die and web browsing is an act of futility. All it takes is a re-boot and things are fine again, for a limited amount of time.

I have a feeling that torrents are to blame, but don't really know how to resolve the issue for good?

Thanks in advance for any help!!!

Did some more digging and found error 4226 was present and ran the patch - I'll come back with the results...

    Tomato is the answer. I have 700 connections simultaneously without any problem (CPU Load (1 / 5 / 15 mins) 0.12 / 0.15 / 0.10).

After doing this I haven't had a single problem, even back on the OE firmware (just cause it fails during the upload process of all other 3rd party firmwares) - been running strong for days and speed for all apps is top notch..

are you limiting you upload speeds at all? sounds like your maxing out the bandwidth and lilling the router and anything else that wants outside access.

no, I am not limiting my upload speeds - but the problem was persistent even when I had 0 upload traffic, had all torrents paused or even had my torrent app closed for that matter.

all is good now and haven't had a single hiccup since installing the patch...

This could be because the WRT54GS doesn't support Thibor 16b... That version is only for the WRTSL54GS. Might want to make perfectly sure you're flashing the correct firmware, else you could brick your router.

good point - I am on the verge of a complete system re-build and revamp of my networking stuff, probably have to throw an upgrade to tomato 1.11 into the mix...
