I have two VPN routers and wish to creat a Gateway to Gateway VPN tunnel between them. But they are unable to connect. The DynDNS entries work because both myself and the LinkSys tech support have been able to remotely manage them using the DynDNS addess.

The routers need to be configured as follows:
    RV082 - static IP address
    RV042 - DynDNS address

If I configure both routers with Static IP addresses the connection is successful.
If I configure the RV082 router with a dynamic IP address and the RV042 with a Static IP address the connection is successful.

But the moment the RV042 is configured to use a DynDNS address the tunnel can't connect. When configured this way, the RV082 VPN summary screen shows "N/A" in the Tunnel Test box. If I test the tunnel from the RV042 it waits for about 10s and then doesn't connect.

The SysLog and IncomingLog doesn't show anything on the RV082

    The SysLog from the RV042:
Aug 22 12:45:26 2005 VPN Log [Tunnel Negotiation Info] >>> Initiator Send Aggressive Mode 1st packet
    Aug 22 12:45:26 2005 VPN Log initiating Aggressive Mode #7, connection "ips0"
    Aug 22 12:45:26 2005 VPN Log STATE_AGGR_I1: initiate

LinkSys support has been no help and my case has been going since 29 June.... They have told me to upgrade the firmware so many times it's not funny. Sometimes even telling me to use old firmware and telling me it's a beta.
    RV082 - Firmware Version:
    RV04 2 - Firmware Version:

I might spend an hour or two on the phone and then the call gets disconnected and I have to start all over again. It's just not good customer service.

    Any help would be appreciated.

It's unfortunate linksys tech support has become a vicious cheese omelet and broccoli "underwear stain", but such is the price when you sit down to dinner at their house...

Out of curiousity, if you can get it working in the other configurations, why the need for "this" specific configuration?

    Differnet config required

    Tell me about it...
I need the DynDNS to be working, because the RV042 is on a DSL connection and although it tends to keep it's IP address for a long time, i don't want to have to re-configure the VPN tunnel if it does change.

    dyndns on one end working!

    The configuration:

    1 RV042 with a static IP (static)
    1 RV042 with a dynamic IP (dyndns)

Setup (dyndns) with a hostname and make sure it works.

Set (dyndns) Local Security Gateway Type to Dynamic IP + FQDN and enter the dyndns hostname in the Domain Name field. Fill in other fields as needed.

*** Check (dyndns) Advanced, Agressive Mode checkbox. THIS APPEARS TO BE THE IMPORTANT PART. ***

Set (static) Remote Security Gateway Type to Dynamic IP + FQDN and enter the dyndns hostname in the Domain Name field. Fill in other fields as needed.

    Test and enjoy!
