Hardware Version Confusion

My WRT54G has a V.3 suffixed to the model number on the bottom of the unit. I assume this indicates a hardware version 3.
Within the configuration pages, if I "Backup" the current configuration, the generated file name is WRT54GV2_v3.03.6 which seems to indicate that my router is a version 2.

I'm in need of upgrading the firmware to obtain WPA2-AES support. I downloaded firmware v4.21.5 for V3 hardware from the Linksys site and applied it. It caused connection initial negotiation problems. I've reverted to the original v3.03.6 firmware.
I'm questioning whether I should have grabbed V2 firmware updates instead of V3.

    Anyone have any insights?

Hi, since i'm not familiar with v2 or v3 Linksys firmwares i think you should post at Linksys Official Firmware Forum.
