I bought a WRT54GL router and was playing with some differenet firmwares. i accidentaly uploaded HyperWRT and used the wrong version and the router power constantly blinks. I can ping the router when I set my IP to but I have tried to TFTP the firmware via both windows and a Mac and have had no success. I think I am still covered under Amazon's return policy, but I did open the router up. I am using the following TFTP command in Windows (XP)

    tftp -i PUT xxx.bin

The TFP responds that the server is not available. :-( Any help would be great!

    Timing is critical.
get that tftp command ready but don't hit enter

make sure the .bin file is in the c: root directory
I think it needs to be there for the winxp tftp to find it

next, unplug the router, and then plug it back in

If you have the ethernet cable plugged into port 1, then watch the light for port 1. When it comes on, then you hit Enter on the keyboad.
If the light for port 1 starts blinking, then something is working. The transfer could take 10 - 15 seconds.
then the router needs time to write and reboot, etc. Don't touch or do anything for at least 3 minutes
after that you might be good to go

I did have it all on a USB drive so maybe that is the issue. Should I use MS TFTP or the linksys TFTP? Do they make a difference?

    Thanks for the help.

Yes, the file needs to be on the c: drive in the root folder, not My Documents or anywhere else.
Also, when you open the command window in windows sometimes it's not the c: prompt, but maybe c:\my documents\ or something like that.
You need to change to the c: prompt only

The standard windows tftp works, but so does the Linksys one.
Go with the one you like or seems easier to use for you.

For future reference, what was the wrong version of HyperWRT you uploaded?
