I have a Linksys WRT54GL running Tomato firmware. I am sharing my neighbors Wifi (yes, he ok with it) in a wireless bridge type configuration.

I have the Wifi signal from his router coming in though the Wifi of the WRT54GL. I then have my computer connected to the router via a ethernet cable out of the LAN port of the Linksys.

The signal strength is ok and works most of the the time but sometimes the connection drops very low and other times it cuts out. I have tired to move the router around and at best the signal strength averages around -80dbm.

Does anyone have any suggestions for ways I can increase the reception of my router? Would a larger antenna help and if so which one? His router is one from the cable company with a built in antenna so I will not be able to add add anything to it. Any help would be amazing!

Try google for "home made wifi antennas" - you'll find several ways to improve the signal, many of them won't even cost you anything.

Have you increased the transmitter signal strength in your Wireless settings section of Tomato? I run mine at about double what the default setting is.
