How to increase connections?

In some of the Satori forums, people are suggesting that we can increase stability of this router when using certain P2P applications by increasing the number of concurrent connections. You can see the default value of ip_conntrack_max with this command:

    cat /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_conntrack_max
Mine shows 1024. The command to increase this value is:
    echo 4096 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_conntrack_max
But, after issuing that command, cat shows that ip_conntrack_max is still set at 1024. Any idea how to actually apply the new number? Then, I'd like to know how to apply it each time the router is re-started, too!

For my WRT54GS it shows 2048. I think that is quite enough for P2P.

People with WinXP SP2 should be worried about the connection limit in the SP. That is what makes XP not useable with P2P
