OK,, heres the deal. i recieved a wrt54g in a suitcase{different story}, opened it up and began to set the thing up. it says to first load the cd,, did that. after 8 steps of how to hook up 3 cables, it shows a password thing?
i see that the default password is 'admin',, big deal, it doesn't get me anywhere.
set the cd aside,, go to this website, www.linksys.com/check ,,this site for some reason changes my ip address as i am reading the steps!! loose my internet connection.
would someone please tell me how to get past this stuff. i believe i need to change the ip address on the router first? this can't be that hard,, can it?? or are the instructions bad?

Hold the reset button for 30 seconds which will reset it to factory defaults again. Once its done the power LED will be solid green. You computer (hard wired to one of the LAN ports should recieve an IP address in the 192.168.1/24 range. Once this is done open a web browser to enter admin for the password and you should be in business. Make the appropriate changes to your personal preferences including setting a new password and enabling wireless security.
