Ok, so I thought I was computer literate, but I thought wrong! My husband got a laptop from work and it is set up for wireless at his office and works fine there. Their IT guy said that if we bought a wireless router that we could hook it up at home for him to work here as well. We bought a WRT54G which we know other people who work there have that one and it works fine, but when I put in the cd and follow ALL of the instructions nothing ever happens. I've tried everything, including talking with his companies IT guy over the phone. Even he's stumped! We exchanged it thinking that maybe it was defective, but this is not the case since I am having the same issues. I am desperate and I'm about to strangle my husband for ever asking me to do this. If someone can help before I hurt him or destroy the laptop I would greatly appreciate it.

What type of connection do you have to the Internet? Do you have a broadband connection like DSL or a cable modem? What operating system is on the laptop, is it Windows 2000, or Windows XP and what service pack level are you on? Can the IT guy tell you what wht wireless NIC you have on the laptop? Does your husbands user id have local adminstration rights? If not you may not be able to change the network settings to enable the machine to connect to the WRT54G. Sorry for all the questions, but for someone to help you that is some of the information one has to know. The other questons are is your husband going to use a VPN (i.e. Virtual Private Network) to connect to work?

Was the laptop configured to be connected to the domain at work and also there has to be a profile setup so the machine can be used as a home based computer that can connect to work?
