i need to change my wep key and password for security

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by tyler40martin, Oct 29, 2006.

  1. i remember opening a browser and typing in my IP address? if that is correct...and being asked for a password and username in which is was admin and admin.

from here i could change my wep key, and as ive been told, the admin username and password, so that others could not steal my wireless.

my wireless goes slower around the times when everyone gets home and makes it virtually impossible to load pages or to play xbox.

can someone tell me where to find my IP address or access this page again?

What operating system are you using?

By defaults, common linksys routers are using IPaddress of you need to type this on the address barr of the router. It will ask for a username and password. You need to leave the username blank and type admin for the password (this is the default username and password, depends on what model you're using). Once you're on the set up page of the router. Go to the WIRELESS TAB, the you will see there subtabs. Hit on WIRELESS SECURITY subtab. You may choose WEP for the wireless security mode. Type in a passphrase, any word not less than 5 character. Then hit on generate button. You will see there key 1. Copy that key because that will serve as your wireless password. It's case sensitive by the way. No need to copy the other keys( key2,3,4). And save your settings.
I'm not sure if you're still using the default settings on the router. Much better if you will indicate the model number of your router as well. The setup page of the router depends on the model of your router. Hopefully this will help you.
