I've got a Linksys WPS54GU2 installed on my network and just got a new printer. When I connect the printer to the print server - via USB, it does not show up in WinXP when I go to "Add New Printer" and search my network.

My question is - Do I have to physically connect this printer to each computer on the network and install it that way before connecting to the WPS54GU2?

What's the right way to do this?

    For instance...

I've installed the print server and installed a printer on my desktop computer under the following path:

    \\deskpc\dell 1700

Now, when I go to another computer to install this printer (connected to the print server) I have to selet \\deskpc\dell 1700 as the printer to connect to.

To me this seems like I'm still tied to the desktop computer for printer sharing just as before. I would have thought with a print server the printer address/name would be something like:

    \\wpsxxx\dell 1700

Should I have to use the printer showing up under the desktop computer for all these connections?

If you installed the Bi-Admin utility and the Printserver Setup you can use the Printserver to add the printer. It will search for the printserver and you can add the printer on the port you attaached it to. There are two physical ports on the WPS54GU2, the first is the Parallel Port and thew Second is the USB2 port. There are six logical ports that can be tied to the physical ports, for landscape, portrait, and different paper sizes. YThe port will be associated with the printserver name. You can add the printer and load the drivers, when you add the printer to the port. Once one the printserver portd are added you can use the Add Printer in Setting to add another printer to the other port in Windows XP.
