Last night I decided to add some internal sniffers to my SOHO network at the house. I am running a WRT54GS on one segment. On this segment, I see a lot of IGMPv2 Membership queries/response/report traffic. Not being familiar with this protocol, I have started researching its purpose/abuses. Apparently, this is used in multicasting. Do I need to be running this? I do not believe I use multicasting internally to deliver data. Is this something that can be turned off and If so how?
