Is there any way to decode version # from box?

I've been looking for another WRT54G for the house. I'm obviously looking for a non v5 unit. I've looked and looked at the boxes, but I don't see an obvious way to tell if the unit inside the box is a v5 without buying it, and returning it when I discover it's a v5.

Looks like I'm heading back to Walmart to return this v5 I just bought.

    Version ID on the Box

This had me stumped for a bit until I noticed that just below the UPC code on the box is a small white box with the MAC address and the Serial Number. Use the serial number code to determine the version of the router. For example, the V5 S/N begins with CDFB, while the V4 S/N begins with CDFA. You can find all the codes on several sites - probably here, but for sure on Happy hunting!
