I am monitoring the traffic between the router and the modem, and I am seeing
traffic such as, which I feel should not be getting past the router.

Why would this be happening, there is no port forwarding enabled.

What can be done to prevent this?

Do you have upnp service enabled?

The IP is part of the MCAST IP range (, which seems to imply one of your machines is trying to multicast data.

It might also be something as simple as a IM type of app trying to get itself configured for Internet access...

    Just a thought

not as far as I can tell, however, can I prevent multicast from leaving the router?

sorry to be so thick, but can you explain why 'Allow Multicast'?

Should this be enabled as a default?
