Trying to make a long story short...
    1) I ordered a cheap JTAG
    http://www.soc-machines.com/pdfs/JTAG10 Datasheet.pdf

    2) connected:
    VDD, RESET, TDI, TMS, TCK, GND, TDO to pins 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13 correspondingly
    even tried:
    VDD, TDI, TMS, TCK, GND, TDO, RESET to 1, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15
this is according to SeattleWireless at this link http://www.seattlewireless.net/LinksysWrv54g

    3) compiled OpenWinCE JTAG application for Linux (Cygwin does not seem to work)

    4) added to the PARTS file the lines
    1001001001110100 ixp425 IXP425-533MHz
    1001001001110101 ixp425 IXP425-400MHz
    1001001001110111 ixp425 IXP425-266MHz

even updated the intel/ixp425/STEPPINGS file with:
    0000 ixp425 A0
    0001 ixp425 B0

    7) verified that the parallel port is connected without extensions, and has the right port information

    5) issued the command "jtag" and typed "cable parallel 0x378 WIGGLER"
    --> succeeded

    6) issued "detect" --> nothing happened
    next "detectflash" brings an error

    My questions:
    - what could have gone wrong?
    - anyone can point me to a Win32 free software to cross check?

    thanks for your time
