too much trouble for me i would just short the pins out. and call it good.
and i would never load anymore f/w. i am just too handy with a screwdriver i guess 'short'.....

but if its what you want to do.

the parts on the list seem to match up. go to town

i know you dont want to order online but im sure you could order a complete one from http://www.theforestnetworking.com
they do all that stuff i.e serial mods and whatever

    actually http://www.theforestnetworking.com/hardware.php

    fully complete 14bucks

also i would imagine that most of theese vendors dont keep this in stock either

DB25 paralle conector (assembly kit) this is for building it, the kind with screws to open and close the case.

12 pin IDC header - look at an HDD cable end to get an idea of what it looks like, just smaller and less pins

12 pin IDC PCB header (socket) - you can buy a larger breakaway style and remove the remaining piece. (look for dual row pcb headers)

The radio shack site is not very good and does not have all the products as I couldn't find them. t4thfavor raised a good point about buying a cable made up. I bought one from www.theforestnetworkgin.com which is owned by wolf. For $15 plus shipping you could get the cable and he can sell you the PCB header which you need to solder on the wrt. If you are dead set on making it yourself, you need to find a local electronic parts store with people who understand this stuff. Don't get the wrong idea, I am not knowledgeable in electronics. just been down the road you are starting on. I found it easier to just order it and be done with it. You should probably print the hairydairymaid pdf manual as it has some helpful picks of the components.

i think that i will consider the suggested you made disman_ca. but i am pretty set on make this thing my self. i ahve to make a few of them like 10 for some wrts at school and mine. the wrts at school are not dead they are goin to pay me to make them just in case......

the people at schools dont know that they can use one jtag for all the wrt. but what they dontknow wont hurt them :D becasue they are goin to pay me back for making these
