I was a WRT54G one desktop hooked up to the switch and a laptop on WAN. Both cpu's connect to the internet but cann't see each other. I've tried Linksys and they were no help at all. Any ideas?

Are both computers setup on the same Workgroup or Domain? Do you have a software firewall set up on the computers? Zonealarm and other firewall software have been know to block access. Are you using static addresses? If they are not on the same subnet then you will not be able to see the other computer.

Yes, they both have the same workgroup name.

I have Zonealarm installed on both computers now. When I first set it up the laptop did not have Zonealarm. I did try disabling both Zonealarm and Windows firewalls ( I always have the Windows firewall diabled). It still did not work.

Both computers have a static network address. I'm not sure about my internet IP thou.

Check the IP addresses,if they are in same subnet try to ping each other. If they able to ping each other, check if compatible (IPX/SPX) protocol is installed.

I can not ping the other computers. When I go to view work group computers sometimes I will see my laptop with the desk top but it won't connect to it.Says I don't have premission or something. The laptop will never see the desktop. The laptop at times won't even see it self but most of the time it will.

Where can I double check the subnet on each computer? I remember checking them before and they were the same. But I can't seem to find them right now.

I just tried pinging each cpu again and it did work ( i was using the wrong address a couple minutes ago).

But under workgroup cpu's they both only see them selfs and not each other. About 1/2 hour ago the desktop would see the laptop but not connect to it.
