I have access to 2 internet connections. One is through a proxy server. All linked through one cable to my apartment.

They both tend to go down at seperate times, so at the moment when one goes down I have to go and change all the IP, subnet etc settings.

Thats fine, it takes about a couple of seconds, but a lot of the time I am not around, so no one else knows how to do it.

I know you can set the router up so that it switches between internet connections, but I don't know how to do it. Any help will be welcome

Theres a couple questions that needs to be answered before i can say for sure.

    1) Does the link stat (interface) for your connection drop when the service drops or does the service just stop and the link stays up?

    2) Does anyone know if when the link drops on the wan side of a 54g if it holds onto its IP or does it release it immediately?

    3) Does anyone know for certain if when the a wan side link drops on a 54g, if the routing table is modified to drop the default route?

Robone if we can get answers to these questions I can tell you for certain if it will work or not. I know you cant answer 2 or 3 but hopefully you can answer number 1.

    1. The 2 links are being fed from 2 routers and the links stay up between my wrt54g and the routers. It stops from the service provider.
    2 and 3. Don't know
