    Hello everyone!

I'm new here, and possibly new to linksys.

I am looking into buying a router and I found Linksys Wireless-G WRT54GX4 Broadband Router with SRX400. It offers good range, and thats what I need the most, but.... reviews for it are quite mixed.

What I need is a STABLE router, that would never crash, be good with VOIP and have a good range. People say that it drops connections, freezes, does not work with Skype (which it must for me).

    My questions:
    Should I get this router?
Have the problems been solved with recent firmware?
If not, should I get some other router instead?
What are your own experiences with it, as far as stable connection?

better go for the WRT300N. SRX routers are not in Linksys priority anymore as far as I can understand. though they come up with beta and firmware upgrade, they never seem to resolve any issues whatsoever.

They're highly marketing the N series. All SRX routers have unstability issues for which I feel, the fault lies in the chipset.

Or, the best bet is WRT54G (v1 till v4) or the WRT54GL (if range aint an issue)

you could always get the wrt54gl and just slap some bigger antennas on there, that always seems to work nicely :)

the 300N, seems ok but pre-standard stuff always has bugs that need to be worked out.

The wrtsl54gs and the wrv200 have been great routers for me, i dont use skype so i cant speak to that, but i do use vonage and have no issues.

Oh well - went with the zyxel, I was really worried for the instability and incompatibilities with skype. Linksys everywhere I looked had so-so reviews, whereas zyxel had rave reviews throughout. They might be biased, since smaller and less known names tend to be thought better of, but last several hours on it seemed to be fine.

Thanks a bunch guys - I'll come back here when I will be about to purchase a new router, I'll surely look into linksys then.

    Do not buy linksys...
I have been trying to get my unit replaced for over 6 months.
    Amazing storey really.
Buy D link. They are warranty friendly.
I have recorded my conversations with linksys and the out come has been pitaful. I finally got my unit replaced but the new unit is garbage.
Another exchange in the next 6 months I imagine.
