Using Victek's ND mod version of Tomato. Router is a Linksys WRT54GL v1.1 All of a sudden wireless internet stopped working and then magically starting working again. No idea what might have caused this. The router log shows nothing at all with errors or any thing. Wireless drivers are up to date. Made sure I am on a different channel from all the people around me. I am on 11 currently. I seen 2 people on 9 and other people are using 1/6. Any ideas? We only have a laptop and Wii that are wireless. When the internet went down. I fired up the Wii to see if the internet worked on that. It was dead as well.

Interestingly, the same thing would happen to me about once a day. No wireless for ten to fifteen minutes, and then it would come back. Wired access to the router would work just fine.

I finally replaced the router with another router identically programmed, and everything works fine. So I'm hoping it was just a router starting to fail, rather than something seriously wrong.

I hope it is not the router. I had to send back the brand new 1 I had purchased from newegg.com Since it was defective and they sent me another band new 1. Which is the current 1 I am using. Only had it for a couple weeks or so.

I hope you're right. I'll keep an eye on this thread and see if someone has a better idea.

I was on the verge of selling the "bad" router for scrap. Maybe I'll be saved from needing to buy another router. :)

It happened again this morning with the same issue. Just drops out of the blue with no errors or any thing in the logs. Do you think its a channel issue with a neighbor using some thing that knocks me off? I am using channel 11 and know one is on it. Every one is on 1, 6 and 9. It has not happened again since my original post on 5-13-09 until now.

The first time it happened was around 9 pm. Lasted about 15mins. This last time happened at 11:30am. It only lasted about 2-3 minutes.

In my case, the wireless signal would be completely gone, even if the laptop was in the same room as the router. Channel scans indicate that there is nothing else there.

When I switched routers, the problem happens less often. My failures are about once every week rather than a couple of times a day.

That is crazy. Maybe it is a firmware issue? I have not seen any one mention this problem though with Victek's firmware. I made sure it was installed properly.

Maybe a neighbor talking on a 2.4GHz phone?

I had the same issue with the exact same firmware a couple of times.

    Try changing the channel.

I used use channel 6 until one of my neighbors "stole" it, so I switched to channel 11. Now any time I use my microwave, I lose all TCP/IP traffic (I don't lose the wireless link though).

I think I finally nailed it down to what it was. Yesterday the internet dropped again and cutting in/out. Plus it would move extremely slow. I switched from channel 11 to channel 1 and it fixed the issue. Just for a test. I went right back to channel 11 and the previous issue was happening again. So, it seems I am getting some massive interference from some one with what ever they are using. When this happens. It is only once in a while and always in the evening.
