Make BEFSR41 wireless?

    Hi all,

Currently I have a WRT54GL and may soon be aquiring a BEFSR41. I would like to use the BEFSR41 as a switch but with the Wireless picking up the signal from the WRT54GL and sending it to the 4 LAN ports - effectively a bridged switch. First off is such a thing possible?

I have the Top casing (inc. antennae) and wireless card/mini cables from an old dead WRT54G. Can the wireless card and top-casing from the old Router be transplanted onto the BEFSR41? First physically then virtually (Hardware connected, then Firmware to recognise it - aftermarket of course).

I cannot flash the firmware on the WRT54GL - it has to stay as Linksys, however the BEFSR41 I can play with all day long.

    Many thanks,

    derelyth :)

No completely different beasts, only similarity is the plastic case IIRC. Can't you repair the WRT54G and install 3rd party firmware which will have the required Wireless Client mode?

Ah, fair enough - thanks mstombs :)

Unfortunately the other bits of the old WRT54G were thrown away without me knowing, I'd only salvaged the top casing w/ attenae and the Wireless card itself; otherwise a repair would have been on the cards.

To ebay for a cheap xxx54G then :)
