New here so apologies if in the wrong forum.

I have a WAP54G which has been working for many months and have been trying to relace it with a WRT54GX with SRT.

The WAP hangs off a switch along with all my other Ethernet connections including the modem/router that connects to ADSL

The WRT is a router and wants to be master and coenct befor emy main swicth and I can't immediately find how to make it all work. Sometimes I can talk to it and other times not. Suddenly no matter what I do I can't see it. After a few hours I've removed it and am back with the WAP while I gather any tips of hints about this changeover... and hence me being here.

I don't want to change my Modem/Router and ideally would just like it if I could connect the WRT with one cable and have it act just like a radio in the same way as the WAP.

In the past I've generally stumbled around and made stuff work but that doesn't seem to work this time! What might I do? Many thanks for any help.

You should follow the instruction for connecting a WRT54G to a router. Basically what you are doing is setting the WAN connection to DHCP client, You are disabling the DHCP server on the WRT54GX and saving your setting. In Advanced Routing, you disable NAT mode and save your setting. You connect one of the LAN ports to the LAN port of your current router. Power the WRT54GX down and up. You should cahnge the password for the WRT54GX, change the SS-ID to something other than Linksys and enable encryption, If your main router has a IP Address of change the local address of the WRT54GX to 192.168,1,X where X is not 1 and is outside of the addresses your DHCP server is issuing.
