My WRT54G V1.0 finally died and I've replaced it with a new WRTSL54GS and Thibor's SL 14 firmware and it's working great.

I took apart the 54G v1 and find there's a Mini PCI inside. I popped it out and put it in my Toshiba laptop and now it's 802.11G instead of the old 802.11B

    Woo Hoo!

There might be a market for the old 1.0s out there.

Cool. My WRT54G V1.0 never died, but I also took it apart and put the MiniPCI wireless card in my wife's COMAPQ laptop ... also now a 802.11G instead of the old 802.11B, so happy about that... Speed!

Maybe.... but only for older Notebook Users... You can still use the miniPCI Wireless WRT54G Box as a Switch btw, apparently. I loaded Thibor 14 on it just for fun, and in case I ever put the miniPCI card back (unlikely, I have 2 GSv1.1s).

As a matter of interest what "failed" exactly? Have heard the Power Supply can be flaky. I found that the contacts on the LAN Ports at the back seemed a bit sensitive and had to be VERY careful during upgrades.

It was an internal power supply issue. I could follow the 5V from the connector to a certain point then nothing. I think it's a DC to DC converter circuit.

Anyway, I've been wanting to buy the SL for a while now. I also bought a new Motorola SB5120 cablemodem and that fixed a problem I was having downloading torrents. My old linksys modem would "die" after a few minutes of 400+kbps downloading.

All is good. Now if I can only figure out how to write to a 2MB flash drive connected to the SL from linux. I can write to it just fine from windows but not from linux.

I'll figure it out by the end of the day.

BanditRider: It's a pity that you're so far away, I'd be interested in the 1.0 even without the miniPCI... but if you could manage to pass it to Milwaukee WI ...

I´m just curious: what was the cause of death?? :sadbye:

Cause of death? Just old age I think. Could have been a power surge. I lose power here quite often during severe thunderstorms or snowstorms.

I really should get a UPS.
