Okay just recently flashed to tomato from thibor15c using a wrt54gl

Connections good, one wireless connection works but one of my laptop is unable to acquire any ip address at all. The signal strength says excellent but it sits there forever and doesn't acquire an ip address. Weird thing is one of my other wireless connection got in with no problems. :frown: Please help me out

My connection is comcast cable and it is a fresh flash of tomato so I have no idea what to do for settings in order for i to work.

    Please help

Go to a dos prompt (or enter command in the run box) and type ipconfig /release then hit enter. Then type ipconfig /renew and it should renew it's IP. This is assuming the laptop is running Win2K or XP. Also make sure you have the latest wireless drivers on the laptop.

its not acquiring an ip address thats the problem it seems to stay at "acquiring ip address" then just doesn't connect. Please help me out its been over a week and i've tried everything I don't understand why another wireless computer is able to connect while the router cant

I set up a static ip connects for 2 seconds then disconnects again....

Just had the same problem for the last few days. I upgraded from Thibor15c as well. When I setup tomato, I used the same wireless settings, including SSID and WEP key. All wireless clients connected but could not obtain IP address -- thought it was a DHCP problem but wired clients worked fine.

The only way I got it to work was using a different SSID, different channel (probably not needed but I did it anyway) and a different WEP passphrase/key (again prob not needed). Didn't work at first but then rebooted router and laptop found it OK, new key worked fine and DHCP worked like a champ.

    Hope this works for you.

Interesting. I upgraded my wrt54gs v4 from Thibor 15c without any problems. Did not reset things prior to the upgrade to Tomato (yes I know you should but forgot) and when the router rebooted all setting were there for Tomato and it connected to my DSL service. Wireless worked without any problems. In my case all PC's in the house are wireless connected using wpa, the difference from your situation.
Not sure why you would need to change any of the security settings. Makes no sense.

thanks for the reply but I don't think thats it. I changed SSID, channel and tried doing it with a different WEP and even tried without using protection and same result connected but cant obtain any ip address only thing I can think of is reinstalling drivers for the laptop but thats a small hope....

I upgraded my GS v4 from Thibor 15c to Tomato without any issues as well with the wireless. However, I've had similar problems to yours with my work laptop that I use wireless on both at work and home.

One thing to try is removing any record of the Access Point from either your Windows XP client or Wireless Client. Restart your computer and let it re-detect your Access Point, re-key in the security key and see if that works.

The only other settings I have are turning Frame Burst to Enable, SpeedBooster to Disable. Other than that, you're probably going to have to uninstall the card completely in Windows and re-install it and first check and see if there are new wireless drivers for your wireless card.

I don't understand... I flashed a GSv4 and a Gv2 from Thibor 15c to Tomato without any trouble... I flashed the secondary first and had connect to the primary(still running Thibor) using wds... after flashing the primary (the v4) everything worked great... my PIII running xp w/a linksys GS pcmcia device and a Mac G4 aluminum. The only problem I had was trying to enable WPA, but I didn't try to long I stayed with WEP.

The only thing I would suggest is clear nvram, flash, clear nvram, setup...
