I'm hoping that someone might be able to help me figure out this networking thing, I've been here reading as much as I can but still am not sure how to set up this router with wireless security. I have a WRT 45G ..v5, updated firmware to v 1.00.6. At least updating got me on the internet with my wired PC. I am trying to connect a iBook G4 to the internet wirelesslyand am not having much success. I can connect to my SSID as long as it's broadcasting, but the minute I go to set any sort of security like WEP, it asks for my password and I tried inputting the passphrase to no avail. I'd like to get this set so that any person in the vicinity isn't using my internet connection, but really am *new* to networking and it seems the more I do, the more messed up things become  I know that I do not have the Windows XP set up properly (I think) and cannot find information in my networking manuals that specifically address networking a Mac and Windows XP.

I hope that I explain this dilemna good enough, I've search google, came up with this forum and am praying someone can get me on the right path here ??? Thanks!

    Welcome to

Try entering the WEP key and not the Passphrase - 10 HEX characters for 64bit encryption and 26 for 128bit. If possible, deploy WPA instead.

If I remember correctly, some AirPort need a bit of prompting to use HEX keys by adding a $ character in front of the key.

Thank you for your help, unfortunately I've been here back and forth from the desktop to the laptop for 2 hours now and I still am no further than I was a couple of days ago. It seems that the minute I set up wireless security my laptop loses the signal. As long as settings are disabled I get access to the internet, the minute I change to WEP, eve WPA--I lose the signal and I'm right here in the same room. Nothing is making sense to long as the router is vulnerable, things are perfect, the absolute minute I go to close the door, I lose the signal....I'm so at a loss. I could just kick the guy at Office Max who suggested this router :x
