After being the unknowing purchaser of a WRT54Gv5.0 router, I'm looking for a new one. It worked great for about a month, then slowly it would drop connections more and more often, to the point where I can now no longer stay connected wirelessly for more than 15 minutes. Usually less. Half the time it refuses to get an IP address from my ISP. On top of that, my very old netgear 802.11b wireless router I kept for backup decided that it too would no longer work. >.<

So, I'm in need of a new router. Does anyone have any suggestions of a model that DOES work properly and won't give up on me after a month? I've been hearing a lot about the WRT54GL, does the standard firmware work well with it? How easy is it to upgrade to the 3rd party linux firmware? I'm open to other models as well.

upgrading to 3rd party firmware is very simple, if you arent interested in those features, you could consider the SRX series. I've had pretty good success with the wrt54gx4

Both of those sound good. I'll have to look into them.

Toxic: I noticed in your signature that you're running the WRTSL54GS with HyperWRT. How well does it work with the USB attached storage option? Have you used that at all?
