Just flashed DD-WRT v24 to my WRT54GS v6 and I had a few gliches along the way but I think it is up and running. My router had been giving me problems and bogging down and needed to be rebooted a few times a day. Now I have a couple questions.

I flashed the generic bin and I am wondering if I should flash to something else, and if so, what? I am confused but the 5 or 6 bins listed on the site.

Also...after I flashed it and got it cable modem (comcast with voip) started acting up. It would continuously recycle itself and I would lose internet connection. I re-booted everything and it seems to be ok for now but I am worried about it. I am scared to enable securtiy on the router and complete the setup for my network. Any help?

Have you tried the 30/30/30, basically you hold the reset button in for 30 seconds, then remove the power cable whilst still holding in the reset button for another 30 seconds then plug the power back in whilst still holding in the reset button for another 30 seconds, then release. This resets everything back to factory default settings and clears the nvram which could be causing you your problems (this is only what i have read though and may be wrong). Also if you look at ddwrt supported devices

It says that wrt54gs v6 can only run the micro version of the firmware because the router has only 2MB flash and mentions something about VXWorks firmware.

I`m sorry I cant help more, but I am new to this myself.

    Good Luck

I have tried flashing this myself to no avail. I have been using a tutorial that

Does anyone know why after flashing WRT54GS with dd-wrt v24 wireless stops working? Wired works fine. The firmware is great! I see a difference in speed. The router is broadcasting and I can see my wireless router when I view wireless networks but it just will not let me connect to it.

Check the settings in advanced wireless

I know with my wrt54GL i had the preamble set to short, Was fine for everything except this one HP laptop which would connect but then refuse to pass data.

Hard reset to factory defaults and start over.

Have you fixed your problem? If not, this is what I did:
    1. Hard reboot (manually). Telnet into the router and do "erase nvram" then "reboot"
    2. After rebooting all settings will be back to defaults. Connect your wireless client without any Security settings, hopefully all will be OK.
    2. Go to the security setting and configure to your liking. Read the following:

Mine didn't work with WPA2+AES so, I fall back to WAP+AES and all worked wonderfull. Hope this help.

If your router comes up with the DD-WRT configuration GUI then you flashed it correctly, if not then you need to Jtag it to recover.

The issues ive read here in this thread were fixed with V24 SP2. Many people reported issues with Wireless Not working, or hangups in the router (Memory leaks)

So the first thing i suggest doing is upgrading the firmware to the lastest Build (V24-SP2).

Just remember, anything past V4 needs the MICRO code, or you WILL brick your router.
