no DNS lookups WRT54G

    Hello all!

I have a problem with a WRT54G (Firmware V.2.02.7). The Internet connection works, but DNS requests seem to get blocked. If I enter the IP of a web site directly, it is loaded. If I enter the name, the lookup fails. nslookup on the command line reports that the server can not be contacted.

Kerio Personal Firewall is installed. And I have to keep it that way because sometimes I have to directly connect the computer to the DSL modem without the router. If I do so the connection works fine!

Does anyone have any idea what is wrong here?

Thank you very much for your help!

Try keying the DNS servers from your ISP into the DNS server fields in the router (main setup page). I had the exact same problem with a Vonage-supplied WRTP54G.

You can also turn off DNS proxy if that setting is available to you, and allow clients to do DNS directly.

You might also try turning off Kerio (just temporarily) while behind the firewall. You may need to set your router as a "trusted" IP address.

Updated firmware can't hurt, either, if your router can take it. What hardware version is it? The native firmware is up to 4.20.7.
