I'm considering the purchase of an NSLU2 to pair with a western digital 'essential' usb 2 hard drive (250Gb). Western digital's support don't seem to be aware of what the NSLU2 is and therefore replied that their drive 'would not be seen on a network'!

Can anyone confirm that the two will work together ok?

Also I am looking to get a streaming media box 'such as' the pinnacle showcenter 200 and my research so far suggests the streaming box will be able to read the drive via the NSLU2 using Twonkvision. Am I on the right tracks there?

Finally, am I right in my belief that I should stick with the supplied firmware and let the ext3 format rule and all will be well? Or can I expect problems of any sort if I don't upgrade the firmware? Are there problems with large files over the NSLU2, obviously streaming movies will involve large files!

Any help or suggestions totally appreciated.

    Thanks a million.

The WD USB drive should work with the NSLU2. There are some drive enclosures and the USB to ATA chipsets in them that have had some problems with their transfers, but those seem to be the cheaper enclosures.

Ext3 and FAT32 formats are the most reliable on the R63 firmware version. Use of NTFS seems to be iffy at this time.
