I have been reading that the previosly unlockable PAP2 now has a tftp password set that nobody has been able to discover. is this still the case, and is anyone working on it?
and since this is a relatively recent change, some retailers may still have older units in stock. does anyone know about when this change happened, and if theres a way to tell by serial number?
im looking for a cheap fxs/ata to use with asterisk, and this device seems to be the ticket. i know even the NA version isnt that expensive, but any money i can shave off is a good thing :)

Firmware v3.1.6 is the last released before the unlocking scheme was out on 9/26/2005. The newer firmware v3.1.7, released after 9/26/2005, has disabled the user ability to perform firmware upgrades which is crucial for the unlocking process. Your best approach is to ask the store when they received the last batches of PAP2 units. I recently bought one PAP2 that still had v3.1.3 firmware. Its MAC ID is 001217FDCxxx. So, if you find a PAP2 with a MAC ID lower than the one I got, chances are it will have a firmware version lower than 3.1.6.

Whatever you do, please don't upgrade your PAP2 to the firmware v3.1.7 unless you want to risk your PAP2 unit getting re-locked by Vonage. Also, please don't connect your PAP2 unit to the Internet before you have it unlocked and disabled the Provision Enable feature. Once you have it unlocked, please save a copy of the encryption key listed under GPP_K on the Provisioning menu. You may also want to get the VuckFonage utility. This will help you to retrieve/decrypt the XML Provision file from the Vonage TFTP server. You will need the encryption key to use this utility. Also, it is not a bad idea to read posts in this thread to familiarize yourself with the unlocking procedures as well as the DO and DON'T stuffs. Failing to do so may jeorpadize to risk your PAP2 unit getting locked.

    Good luck.
