I have an extra WRT54G router. Can this be added to my current WRT54G wireless network, perhaps via ethernet cable, to extend the wireless range?

if you want to extend the wireless range then you dont use a cable. you put the WRT54G's into WDS mode using a 3rd party firmware that supports WDS.

WDS however will decrease your Wireless speed by half each time you add a new WDS device.
