Ping from outside with DMZ enabled, who's responding?

I have a WAG54G. I run a webserver on the network. For that purpose I have mapped port 80 to (the server). Now sometimes this (old) computer crashes, and other times I have switched it off the evening before. So I am unable to get the webpages served from outside (at work or at school). First thing I want to do is ping, but this never works (no response). Unless I enable DMZ (for on the router.

My question, in case I enable DMZ, is the ping response from the server or from the router? This matters to me because if it's from the router it does not tell me anything about the state in which the server is, so I will not rely on the ping results.

Thanks in advance for clearing this up!

The simple way to find out is enable the DMZ but configure it with an address that no computer on your network uses. If you still get a response to your pings then obviously it's the router responding.
