I made the mistake of plugging in the wrong power adapter 12v vs. the 5v and heard a pop sound.

I have no formal training in electronics but decided to dissemble the router, I then tested for continuity with my multimeter and found that this capacitor doesn’t pass current and the others do.

We plan to purchase a new router but I would like to fix this one for testing. Any ideas?

JTestMan, try to find another capacitor with the same capacitance and put it parallel to it on the back of the board. The capacitor probably exploded, so plugging another capacitor parallel to it should work.

If it works, then to make it stay in place, you will have to de-solder the bad capacitor and re-solder the new one in.
