Poor download speed with WRTSL54GS??

I just got one of these routers. I was having seemingly slow web browsing so I went to the linksys site to download the latest firmware. I couldn't even get the download to complete. It stopped at about 38KB and just stayed there. My browser is firefox. So I reconnected my WRT54GS and downloaded the firmware (speed about 330KB/sec). I upgraded the firmware to the latest version. So for kicks I tried to download the same firmware again. This time the download completed but the transfer speed was about 60KB/sec. 1/5th of my normal speed. Has anyone else experienced this? On another note, is there anyway to get rid of the orange SES light if you don't have SES compatible equipment?

you could try installing Hyperwrt_15b for the WRTSL54GS, you can disable ses there for starters and turn off the LED. i don't have download issues so can't really comment on that issue.

nor me.. the WRTSL54GS was faster than my WRT54GS or RV042 for throughput.

Was this using linksys firmware? That's what I am using. It seems to only happen on webpage downloads. For example newsgroups seem normal. This is what I just got on dslreports.com speed test. 80/312kbps. That's right 80kbps download speed. My speed is 3000kbps. I am noticing that the downloads seem to stop and start (i.e. the lights stop flashing then start back again) Is it necessary to retweak your settings if you install a new router?

Edit: I just realized something. I think it is java based downloads. The linksys site uses java and that dslreports test was a java app too.
