Port forwarding to MAC address

I was on a verizon dsl wireless router the other day and noticed it had a feature to forward ports to a MAC address instead of an IP. It's really convenient for laptops not to have to configure a static IP and then unconfigure it when u leave the house.

I'm currently on HyperWRT Thibor 1.5, which doesn't appear to support this feature. Does anyone know of a firmware that does?

Well, Thibor does have that capability. Sorta. :)

What you want to do is set up your laptop's MAC address in Thibor with a static DHCP-assigned IP address (look for "Static DHCP" in the main setup menu).

Then, once your laptop is always getting the same IP address, you can set up your port forward to that IP address.

Your laptop's TCP/IP setup would still be set to "Obtain IP address automatically", so when you attach to other access points, you will receive whatever IP address that access point provides. But when you attach to your Thibor-based router, that MAC address will *always* be assigned the IP address you set up under Static DHCP.
