Hi, I am running the latest version of DD-WRT and are a little confused with the output levels. I understand the levels can be adjusted between 0 - 253mw but i tried 200 and the signal strength dropped. Putting it back to 28 increased the levels again.

I thought the figure typed in the TX Power Level was supposed to be what the unit transmitted.

    Can anyone confirm?

right. but never use too high levels or you get overdrive effects and it makes also no sense if your ap is using 200mw and your client just 20 or 30 mw

Fair call.. My power levels are between to 2 x WRT54G's across a 200 metre distance using 9db 15dB Grid Antenna's...

200m meters is no distance ;)

I have a 3 miles (5 km) and best signal is around 50mW.

No need to go higher for me. I've learnt with painful experiences that more power doesn't necessarily mean better signal nor stronger link. At all.

    3 Miles???

What equipment are you using to get 3 Miles wireless transmision?

Currently Senaos CB 3054 Plus Deluxe (or something like that... they can't even name them properly... geez).

They are 200mW (USA only), 100mW (Europe).

A 22.5dBi parabolic antenna and a 19dBi on the other end. The Line-of-Sight is perfect, luckily enough we have a 75 ft. (~25m) tower were the AP is at.

But with two WRT54G, it could surely reach way further than that.

The Senaos are crap. Trust me on this one. The support is ZERO and the firmware -with several bugs- hasn't been updated for a year. I'm in the process of changing them. I'll post the experience soon.

Agreed. The Senao are crap. I have 2 of them i just tried and they are useless pieces of crap. Don't buy these at all.
